While you can eat it raw, it’s often more palatable when it’s cooked. Either way, you might want to cut the kale into smaller pieces so you can easily swallow it.

In this article, we’ll share our tips on how to grow kale in your backyard using a simple container.

Kale is a type of green vegetable that has a long, thin, stalk-like stem and thick leaves. It looks like a cross between broccoli and collard greens. Some people call it “sassafras.” This is a very popular vegetable, and you can find it everywhere.

Kale is often used in soups and salads. It contains lots of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. For example, it has lots of vitamin A, which is a powerful antioxidant. It also contains lots of vitamin K, and it is very low in calories. Kale is good for your heart and lungs because it has lots of fiber, and it is also low in cholesterol. It also contains some iron, vitamin C, calcium, folate, niacin, magnesium, and phosphorus. In general, kale is very healthy.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to cut kale:

Step 1: Begin with your knife. Cut off the base of the stem.

The first thing that you should do is to cut off the bottom of the kale. This will allow you to better remove the leaves. To do this, you should hold the stem with one hand and slice the base of the kale stem with the knife. Then, you should lift up the leaves and continue cutting them. You should remove the outer layer of the stem first before you start to cut the leaves.

 Step 2: Next, use your knife to cut the leaves in half lengthwise.

After that, you need to remove the core. Use your knife to slice the avocado off the pit. If you don’t have a knife, you can use your fingers to do this. Just be careful to avoid slicing your fingers. Once you’ve done that, just use your fingers to peel the skin off of the avocado.

 Step 3: Remove the stems from the center of each leaf.

It is important to wash your hands after using the kale. There are plenty of bacteria in the leaves. This means that you should wash the kale before you cut it. Also, remove the stems because they are very hard. After you remove the stem, you can then chop the leaves into small pieces. It is important to wear gloves when cutting the kale. This will protect you from the bacteria in the leaves. If you do this, then you won’t get an infection.

Step 4: Now, stack the leaves. Make sure you do this right before cutting them.

In order to stack the leaves, you will need to start with the large leaves and cut them into smaller pieces. Then, you will need to take the small pieces of the leaf and put them together. You can use a different kitchen knife or a pair of scissors to do this. Then, once you have done that, you can put them in a pile. Make sure you don’t put any leaves that you don’t like. You can either put them in a garbage can or on the ground.

Step 5: Use your knife to make long, thin, diagonal cuts across the leaves.

The Types of Kale For Salads:

Here are some of the most popular types of kale to use in salads with tips for softening them.

Curly kale: 

You can buy it in both green and purple forms. It’s one of the easiest varieties to find. That’s why it’s the kind I used in the photos and videos for this post on how to soften the kale. Massage it for 2 to 3 minutes before using it in salads.  

Tuscan, Lacinato, or Dinosaur kale: 

Kale comes in many varieties. I enjoy using this one for salads. It’s a little sweeter than curly kale, and I’ve been able to use it without massaging. However, you can certainly massage it for a few minutes if you like.  

Baby kale: 

These tiny leaves are even smaller than baby spinach, and they don’t require any special handling.

HOW TO PREP KALE FOR SALAD:

  1. Put the kale in a bowl. Wash it under running water, then pat dry. Use your hands to remove the leaves from their stems. Cut the leaves into small pieces. Put in a bowl.
  2. Drizzle the kale with olive oil. I like to use about a tablespoon per bunch of kale. Add a pinch of salt if you’d like.
  3. Massage the kale with your hands for two to three minutes. Then, please pick up the leaves and press them together between your fingers.
  4. Massage a little bit of the oil onto your hands and rub them gently on the kale. Then massage the kale lightly, being careful not to bruise the leaves.
